Seventy years ago the Conservatory went silent. No one locked its doors. No one carried out the dead. The city simply stopped coming up the hill, and the rain kept coming instead.
Inside, a tree that answers kindness still grows in the flooded inner room, reaching for a sun it was promised before you were born. Its seed waits in the hall, rooted in split stone. The keeper who never watered it left a brass key, a watering can, and a warning you will find in her own hand.
Water the seed, and follow where the light leads: across the far shore, down into the beacon, and back to the one who waited.

You put your hand to the bark. It is warm.
The tree does not notice you. It leans toward the wound in the roof — toward a sun it was promised seventy years ago.
You came down the tunnel with empty pockets. You leave with the smell of rain on old stone.
